Not much rest…..

Luke had a spike in intracranial pressure (ICP) during the night, and again periodically in the last few hours.  They took him for a CT scan, and the spike was attributed to swelling in the brain tissue.   The swelling seems to be connected to the salt levels and so they are adjusting his meds to bring those levels back up, anticipating this will help with the pressure levels.  He needs to be heavily sedated for the next few days with as little stimulation as possible.   There is a lot they can do medically to keep his ICP levels down, but if they can’t sustain the ideal level of pressure for 12-24 hours, they will need to perform a craniectomy.  A craniectomy is when they remove a part of the skull to allow for the brain to swell.  If they have to do the craniectomy, they will not be able to do the neck surgery for now. Once his pressure levels are stabilized (12-24 hours),  surgery for his neck can be scheduled.  The next couple of days may be quite challenging as they work through this pressure issue.  Of course, there are multiple doctors working together on Luke.  Please pray for wisdom for them as they navigate through his course of treatment, that a craniectomy will not need to be done, for protection of his brain function, and for Ben and Lindsey’s peace of mind.

We are thanking God that a second MRI was ordered on Thursday, which showed the need for surgery on his neck.  Based on the results from the first MRI, they would not have normally ordered a second one, but the Dr. had that nudge to do so.  He acknowledged today, that “Someone” is watching over Luke.  If the second MRI had not been done, the consequences would have been devastating.  We are also thankful for the doctors and nurses God has provided for Luke.  God is working through the care he is receiving from them.  Thanks again for your continued prayers on Luke’s behalf.  The power of praying in numbers has been very evident!

  2. Dear Ben & Lindsey, We are praying for the Fathers continued provision for you as you haft to wait. We can relate to that experience it is so hard to always be suspended. If we hadn’t had the strength of the Lord I don’t know what we would of done. I have prayed that his perfect love would cast out fear and that he would miraculously keep you in perfect peace as you keep your minds stayed on him. As I was praying for you the other day, I started singing the song called Power of your Love, by Hillsong. Since then the holy spirit has brought it back to me.
I don’t know if you know the song but the chorus, Says
Hold me close let your love surround me
bring me near draw me to your side and
as I wait I’ll rise up like the Eagle and I
Will sore with you your spirit leads me on
in the power of your love………
Father thank you for holding this family close continue to sustain them with your peace, love , presence, let your hope be the fuel of their every thought. you are faithful , With Love, the Mehegan’s ( praying The Father gives Luke some pretty cool insights while in this time.

  4. Ben and Lindsey, I just wanted you all to know how much Jake and I have been thinking and praying for you, mom and dad, Jeff and Shea, Chris and Faith and the whole family. It just must be such a draining and discouraging time. Lindsey, I remember when we were there to visit Mark and Martha, we went to the church to a fall festival. You came with the 3 kids, Ben was doing something else. It was such a cold and rainy night (I sat in the car, too cold for me) I remember Luke having a ball. He was running around with his grandpa, all smiles, very happy. When you wanted to leave he was really bummin, he did not want to leave. I remember how special I felt your kids are. Luke is just such an all-boy. He is so loved by everyone. Ben, I remember the promise you made to God when Luke was born. He heard you then. He hears you now. God loves Luke even more then you do. He will do what He feels is best for everyone. The wait is so exhausting. I wanted you to know your friends in Fla. love you all and are praying blessings on you. Jake and Arlene

  8. My Dad, sister Bev and I stopped and prayed together about an hour ago. Jesus knows and is sympathetic with the grief, anxiety and pain in this trying time. We know God is using Luke and each family member to bring honor and glory to His name. We’re “touching the hem of Jesus’ garment” and pleading for a miracle.

  9. My family is aquainted with the Yoders and we are adding our prayers to the many that are being sent to Almighty God on behalf of Luke and his family. I am planning to pray over the Yoder family and specifically for Luke from 12:00-12:30 AM Sunday July 12. I invite anyone else to join me in choosing 30-60 minute blocks to pray during that 24 hour period through Monday AM. I pray it is an encouragement to the family to know that people are praying while they are awake or asleep during that period. From the blog identified issues I will be lifting up: stabilization of intracranial pressure, normalization of electrolytes, scheduling of cervical spine surgery, Dr Jane and all other medical caregivers, every member of Luke’s family.

  10. Isaiah 40:11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carriers them close to his heart; He gently leads those who have young

This verse has provided strength to me, when what my children need most is difficult to provide. It reminds me that God has a special place in His heart for us as parents. As well as how closely He carries our children. I pray that He continues to give you strength and patience, along with rest and healing for your son.

  11. Ben and Lindsey, Mark and Martha, and all the extended family – we have been praying for Luke and for you folks since we heard of Luke’s accident Tuesday. We marvel at the obvious miracles so far and continue to pray for your peace of mind as you hand Luke over to the Father. It’s all up to Him now.

  13. Psalm 34:17-18 says:

    “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
He delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

  14. Again I am drawn to this blog and again I am on my knees for your family. Over and over I have prayed for wisdom and discernment for the doctors. May HE do more than we could ever hope or ask for and be glorified in this situation. We are believing that Luke will make a complete and total recovery and that God will use this for His glory. We are in almost constant prayer for Luke, that his Heavenly Father would put his hands on his body where it needs healing and make him well. We are standing by you in prayer and believing it all in Jesus’ name. Ben and Lindsey-we are holding you in prayer as well. You have not been forgotten. You are loved and surrounded by so, so many who are walking alongside you, believing for healing for your precious child.

  17. Hi Ben and Lindsey-
We too are a BRCS family. OUr boys played with each other briefly about three weeks ago on the BRCS playground when you were there for a visit. They knew immediately who Luke was/is and we all prayed to Jesus on the spot when we heard of the accident.
As we repeatedly listen to the VBS music – that we now know Luke likes as well – we pray and pray again. I don’t know if you continue to listen to it, but the song following “You’re Powerful” is “Faith” – a beautiful reminder of the faith God gives to “see beyond what I can see.” It’s in very “real time” for us all as we continually pray for Luke, you two, and the rest of your dear family.
Please know that the prayers of my children join the chorus of little saints crying out to God on behalf of Luke…

  19. Lindsay, Ben & Family,

Know that you are in our constant prayers. We follow the blog daily which allows us to keep up with Luke’s progress and pray for what he needs. When we asked Kameron to pray for Luke his prayer for him was that he would be at school again – running and playing. Lots of Love, The Good Family
