Luke’s Story

On Monday afternoon, July 6th, Luke, his brother Andrew and their cousin Carson were playing like boys do.  While playing, they climbed on something that became unstable and it fell on Luke and Carson.  It fell on Carson’s leg but Luke took the brunt of the weight.  Luke suffered a major head injury.

Thankfully Grandpa Mark, Lindsey and Shea were close and ran to help.  Mark lifted the the object off of them and Lindsey tended to Luke to try and help him breathe.  Between all of them they were able to call 911 and portrayed to them the severity of the injury.  Again thankfully the medivac chopper happened to be stationed at the Weyers Cave Airport which is only minutes from the home. They were dispatched immediately and arrived quickly to stabilize him. After stabilizing him he was flown to University of Virginia Medical Center. Upon arrival, the diagnosis was very grim. The neurosurgeon said at this point he had no brain function. As family, friends, and pastors began to arrive, we just covered them in prayer. Later in the evening, we got our first bit of positive news, the pressure on his brain had not spiked as they thought it would. Before leaving for the night, the neurosurgeon that had originally looked at Luke told Ben that at this point he could no longer say that there was no brain function. It was encouraging. At this time, the nurses tried to clean him up and he obviously did not like it, he made movement. Later through the night he did more of the same by fighting against his restraints. The nurses said this was very positive.

  9. You don’t know us personally, but when I heard about Luke’s injury (through Carrie Ashton and my BIL/SIL Tom and Brittany Bates) I prayed and I prayed and I prayed. I have 3 boys as well. My mothers heart was touched and I just lifted your family up all night. I’m praising the Lord for every good report and believing Him for complete healing. May Luke bring Him glory and may your family have peace and comfort and be a witness in the process of Luke’s healing. We serve a Mighty God!!

  16. Hello Yoder family,

Our family and many freinds have been praying for Carson, your entire family and especially Luke. I am glued to the computer constantly looking for updates. God is amazing and I remember how God worked in Shea’s mom’s life last year and he can do the same for precious Luke. Please know our family is here for you. If you need anything please let me know. If you need a babysitter for the other children…Anything…please know I will love to help you. We are still praying and look forward to Luke using this accident for God’s honor and glory.

  22. Luke, Carson and your family are in our prayers…I remember when Luke was born, because Ben’s mom and dad live across the street from us and our second son, also Luke, was just a couple months old. I remember praying for your Luke then because of his heart, and feeling sympothy for what you were going through because I tried to imagine myself going through that with my baby Luke. God brought him through all of that and as I try to imagine what you face again, I can’t help but feel that God has some pretty cool stuff planned for Little Luke Yoder’s life. Our family prays for God’s strength and healing touch over Luke, His peace that passes ALL understanding over the family, and His wisdom over all of the Doctors and nurses involed.

  24. Hey Lindsey,

The news traveled pretty fast through facebook so the prayers were lifted very soon after. I know it has been so long since we’ve seen each other but i wanted to tell you that I feel very strongly in my spirit that the Lord is going to bring about COMPLETE healing for little Luke. So trust in Him and stand in the strong faith that I know you have, and he will recover. God loves that little boy more than you do. I had to learn this myself because I now have two boys of my own and I crumble every time they are hurt. Darah and I send our love and constant prayers.

    Love Cory.

Awesome!!!! We are continually in prayer that Luke will be out from under this oppresive thing and on his way to recovery as God keeps showing us His amazing LOVE.

  34. We have been in constant prayer since Monday night. An excerpt from our devotions on Monday night read “God, nothing is too difficult for you. I praise you because you are the God who perfoms MIRACLES!” We claimed that praise for Luke Monday night as we prayed. I just wanted to let you all know that you are loved and we will continue to pray for full recovery for Luke and Carson.

  35. Got the message last night from our SS list – Luke, Carson and your whole family are in our prayers. I found this passage in Psalms 147 and hope it helps: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power;his understanding has no limit.

Thankyou for the pictures so that I can have a visual when I pray for him. One of the stripes that Jesus took had Luke’s name on it, & His blood covers it all! What a testimony that boy of yours is going to have! God will use him for great things! God bless you with His peace while you await the healing process to be completed. Much love to you & yours.

Tears came to my eyes as I read about Luke, but I know that God is with you. Be assured that Dr. John Jane is THE BEST Neuro Surgeon in the nation. When I had my head injury at EMC 27 years ago God placed Dr. Jane in the ER as my neuro surgeon.
Just know that I am praying for Luke and for Dr. Jane, that he will know what the best treatment is for Luke. I know that God can and is still doing miracles.

The folks there are a praying people and I have grown to know them as caring Christians that will continue to lift you all up before the LORD of Mercy & Grace. I wept and prayed for your situation before writing. I believe God is going to restore all, all, and more to your family that the enemy would tell you is lost. I recognized the catcher stance as being taken at Mt. Crawford!! what memories!! and it sounds like there is a wonderful chance of being many more. We hope that both boys will continue to make improvements with each passing day and will recover 100%. Please know that we are all praying for you all too.

My stepson was in an auto accident 4 years ago and broke his neck, the “hangman’s bone” and we were told it was a miracle he was even alive and it usually kills you instantly. He went through two 9 hour surgeries and wore a halo for almost a year…today you would never know that anything ever happened to him..Praise Jesus…I know the medical implement is called a halo because it looks like one but I believe it is a halo because Jesus and the Angels have their hands on it, it has saved so many lives. I will continue to pray for your beautiful boy and all of your family. God bless, the Perry family.
