Big Day!

Luke had an exciting day today.  The doctor came in this morning and told me that Luke will be moving to Kluge Children’s Rehab Center tomorrow morning.  We have heard amazing things about KCRC and the therapists there.  We are so ready to get him out of the PICU and on the road to recovery.  Please continue to pray for complete healing for Luke’s body and mind. His eyes are still a concern so pray for total restoration of them both.  The right side of his body is more responsive than the left side, so pray also for that.   We still do not know the extent of Luke’s injuries and won’t know until Luke is fully awake and begins therapy.  It will be awhile before all of the sedation meds are completely out of his system, so he is still groggy and tired.  He will continue to be on meds to keep him comfortable-given through his G tube, so finding a balance to have him be awake and comfortable is the key.   He is a determined boy and I know that is going to help push him along!  God has given him a fire and a strong will, he is going to do great.

Luke also went through his first time of therapy this afternoon.  He sat in a wheelchair for over an hour and was more awake than he has been yet.  He follows commands like: thumbs-up, wiggle toes, smile, two fingers (peace sign), kicking, and he will itch his nose or rub his eyes on his own.  Tonight before we tucked him in Ben, Dad, Mark, and I were talking to Luke and he was aware of what we were saying to him.  Ben gave Luke a roll of tape and asked him to throw it.  Luke wound up a few times and when we said to let it go, he did!  He did it a few more times before he was very tired and went back to sleep.  My heart is very full tonight!  As someone told me recently: God is near and God is active!!!

  7. Beautiful, Lindsey! While I was at Liberty U, I served on staff as a youth pastor in a small church outside of L’burg. One of our youth was in a wreck and had major head trauma and spent several months at Kluge–until I read that first part of your post, that had completely slipped my mind! I visited him there, on numerous occassions-it’s a nice facility and I pray that your time there, as a family, will be theraputic on ALL levels–wow–who would’ve thougth 14 days ago, he’d be “moving out?” WOW!!! Continual prayers! And I just had to “lol” at the thought of Luke pitching a roll of tape to Ben……so cute! ;o) Has he spoken words yet?

  15. What feelings of joy and at least some relief that had to have been to see Luke responding in at least some of the “Luke” ways.

  16. Words cannot describe how we feel right now. Anybody who knows Luke knows how much he loves to play ball. He is active and competitive, and I truly believe his personality shined through last night. Those characteristics will benefit him in the weeks ahead. I know that Luke has a long road, but I know who is walking with him on that road. Luke will fight and he will work hard, and before we know it he will be back on the ball field and at home with his family…where he belongs. I am glad we serve a mighty God. My faith has been increased through all of this experience…I actually prayed for forgiveness last night for putting limits on God…our God is a limitless God. Last night did my heart good!! How I loved seeing those big brown eyes and smile! Luke is a beautiful boy on the inside and out. I can’t wait until he can talk to us, I imagine he will have quite a story. I am still praying for him, and for you both, Ben and Lindsey, you have been so strong through all of this, but I know there have been rough moments as well, God never said it would be an easy road, he only said that you will never be alone. Be encouraged God is doing a good work in Luke and will continue to restore your son. We love and appreciate you and are honored and blessed to be a part of the Yoder family.

  22. Hi Ben and Lindsay,

Such wonderful news. I bet it so good to have a part of the Luke you remember back again. I remember it was always so exciting when Faith would wake up and could respond to us. We also spent some time at KCRC with Faith. It is a great facility with lots of thearpists who can help Luke continue to make a full recovery. We will continue to pray for his eyesight and that the left side of his body becomes more responsive.

  32. Ben and Lindsey,

We have been trying for weeks to find you! A friend of mine at Bridgewater College where Terry and I work (Carrie Ashton) gave me your contact information. When we first read about the accident in the paper involving a Yoder boy and his cousin, we were afraid it might be one of your boys. I told Terry that, if it was one of your boys, we’d start seeing some life at your old house as I was sure one or both of your parents would come from Florida right away. The day after I said this I saw your dad, Lindsey, so I was so afraid the accident did involve your son. When we did learn that it was Luke and his cousin, our hearts sank. We are praying for Luke and for all of you surrounding him, and hope he has a full recovery. For years I took Katie to the Kluge Center for a spinal cord condition she was born with, and THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. We love it there. Luke will be in good hands. Please know we are thinking of you, and I appreciate reading your updates. Peace.

It has been a while since we have seen you guys but we hadn’t forgotten who you were. We will continue to pray for Luke’s complete healing and for strength and health for you Ben and Lindsey.

  42. We send These lyrics of David Crowder’s song to you…

O Praise Him (All This For A King)

    Turn your ear
    To Heaven and hear
    The noise inside
    The sound of angels
    The sound of angel’s songs
And all this for a King
    We could join and sing
    “All to Christ the King!”

    How constant
    How divine
This song of ours will rise
    Oh, how constant
    How divine
This love of ours will rise
    Will rise…

    CHORUS:
    O praise Him!
    O praise Him!
    He is Holy!
    He is Holy, yeah!

    Turn your gaze
    To Heaven and raise
    A joyous noise
Oh, the sound of salvation come
    The sound of rescued ones
And all this for a king
    Angles join to sing
    “All for Christ the King!”

With you, we praise Him… our King Jesus.

ALL JOY! And still praying for Luke’s journey to wholeness to continue.

  43. It is amazing to hear of all the progress that Luke has made in only a short period of time. Praise our Lord for hearing all of our prayers and may He continue to heal Luke in every way possible.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to everyone in the Yoder family and support team as well for their continued strength and spirit as you are all playing a very important role in Luke’s recovery. May the Lord bless you all as well as the doctors and nurses that are caring for him now.

We will be looking forward to the next update as we know it will show continued success with Luke’s recovery. What a wonderful and uplifting miracle this is.

  47. What a mighty God we serve. God is so good. We are rejoicing with you. God has a MIGHTY plan for Luke’s life. All that we has been through will be used one day for the glory and honor of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact God is already using this for him glory and there is more to come. I lean on this verse so many times in my walk with the Lord and thought it might encourage you…Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.–I hope you find comfort to know our family prays for your family daily.
