Kluge Childrens Rehabilitation Center

Well, Luke moved to Kluge today and seems to be settling in nicely this evening.  We are excited to have him there.  Not only does this signal a big step in his recovery, but it is also a much better environment for the family to begin to interact with him.  I know everyone is curious as to what he is doing, and the latest update (I am always freaking out whenever I am away for more than a few hours) here goes……..he is still responding to all the commands as before, plus adding more all the time.  Some of the highlights today were during speech therapy.  He was able to chew some ice chips, suck on a lollipop and eat a little applesauce.  He also threw a ball numerous times, and before I left, he squeezed Lindsey’s nose.  All very exciting to watch as you can imagine!!  He hasn’t been able to speak yet, and we are just unsure about his vision until he can tell us what he can or can’t see.  He is still getting pain meds every 3-4 hours.  All in all just very exciting and emotional to see his progress.

Ben and Lindsey are doing pretty well also.  While exciting, it was also a very tiresome day.  Just adjusting to a new environment, and probably another dose of reality, along with the joy and thankfulness of where they are…….while we’ll never know exactly what they are experiencing, as parents you can only imagine.  Whenever I call Ben to see if I can bring something, or whenever I leave over there and ask if there is something he needs…..the answer never changes………”just pray”

  1. Mike, Thanks so much for this update. I’ve been anxious all day, hoping and praying that the transition had been made.

We are securing a church for a benefit concert/night of worship on September 19. So excited about bringing the Body of Christ together to bless your family. Details will be coming…

Praying for peaceful rest for all of your family tonight.

  3. Just to reinforce Ben’s request to “just pray”, I thought this verse might be comforting and confirming:

Matthew 19:13a — Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.

    ALL JOY!

  4. My hairdresser has been checking Luke’s blog regularly and wanted me to give her a wristband today. To read that Luke has left the hospital is a huge answer to the prayers of many. “Thank you, thank you, thank you Jesus that you spared Luke’s life and that there are visible signs of healing that is taking place. We’re trusting You to heal the Yoder family emotionally too!

  6. Oh my goodness, Luke squeezed Lindsey’s nose..how precious and encouraging!

So glad the transition went smoothly.

What’s the best way Mike to give the Yoders cash? Take it by their home in an envelope in case her parents aren’t there?

    In prayer,

    Wendy and family

PS Christopher is looking forward to donating some things of value to the Aug 8th yardsale on the ballfield!

    • Hello all:

My Sunday school class, from Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton, has been praying for Luke and the whole family from the very beginning. We all know the power of prayer, and now that the main crisis is past, we would like to be God’s feet and hands in helping with the necessities of life that have come about as a result of this tragedy. We would like to know more about the fundraiser on August 8th, which on the face of it, appears to be a yard sale on “the ball field.” Could we have some more information (place, time, etc.) and some practical things we all could do to help make this a success?

Praise GOD for bringing Luke this far! God has tested this family and the community and has found all faithful to Him.

    • We would like to contribute to the yard sale but will be out of town on the actual date. Where could we drop off items beforehand?

  7. I always look forward to seeing the update to the blog….it’s just been full of things to be thankful for almost everyday, with a few hiccups along the way. We serve an awesome, all-powerful God! Tonight an “old” song came to mind right away–“Praise God from whom all blessings flow..”

    With our prayers,
    Carol & Dave

  12. How wonderful it is to watch and be part of this community as so many reach out and share the love of God with prayers and acts of love showered upon your family. Without this blog we would never know how many people care and share the burden that you are carrying. This is exactly what it means to be a Christian.

Thank you Shana Pettit for picking up the wrist bands for Richard and me. My daughter Kristy Bliss also picked up her band and offered to get some for us. It is so awesome to watch the unfolding of God’s works in little Luke. He works through all of us and we are so fortunate to be a part of the picture. I thank each one of you who takes part in sharing Luke’s story. We look forward eagerly each day to reading your reports.
