Lukeyoder's Blog

Just another weblog

Well, another full day of therapy for Luke.  He is progressing well and getting a little stronger everyday.  The schedule is good for him, but is still really exhausting…he needs a lot of rest in between sessions and is always really tired in the afternoon and evening.  Pray for endurance and increased strength for Luke, he is working very hard!  As good as he is doing, there is still a long road ahead for Luke, he needs everyone’s prayers and support more than ever~lift him up!!!

I can say a lot about what Ben and I have been going through these past 3 weeks, but that boy laying in the bed, wearing a big, heavy halo (that makes everything very difficult), is amazing!!! He is my hero, and I admire his strength and determination so much.  Yes, he does get sad at times and he gets frustrated, but most of the time, Luke has a wonderful attitude.  He is very loving and affectionate with everyone he knows…he is always giving hugs when our family comes to visit.  Not just little hugs either, big, tight, long hugs…and lots of them.  He especially loves to be near Andrew and Maleah, he is an awesome big brother, and they miss eachother a lot.   Last evening, when we were outside celebrating his birthday he wanted to be near and touch and hug all the kids…I got some great pictures.   He has a smile for everyone and shows his funny side often.  He gets that mischievous twinkle in his eye that I know so well, I love to see that!  Just a few examples (and if you know Luke then you will see it too).  Last night my Mom and Dad gave Luke a UVA sweatshirt and t-shirt.  We were all saying how nice they were, and pretty soon Luke sticks two hands in the air and gives two big, emphatic thumbs-down- No UVA!  He is a Duke fan through and through.  We laughed a lot about that.   And today in therapy recreation (TR) , he was playing catch with me and the therapist and he thought is was so funny to try to trick us about where he was going to throw the ball.  He would fake a few times and then whip the ball at one of us.  And more than once he would look at the therapist and without moving his eyes throw it right at me.  This is very typical Luke behavior, and I was loving every second of it!

What a blessing he is to us!  He is teaching me everyday how to be a better Christian and better person all around.  I am so unbelievably blessed to have the husband, children, and extended family that I have.  To everyone from family and friends, to all of you who read this daily and some of you who have never met us, I am overwhelmed by the support.  There are no words to describe how thankful we are, it is truly amazing!!!  Please continue to come along side of Luke and our family as the healing continues…I am believing that God will make Luke whole again, just like his favorite song says.

  11. Lindsey,

What a blessing to read this blog and see how faithful and loving God is. I think of the one set of footsteps in the sand, how He carries us through the difficult times. He does all these things for our good and His glory! His love is amazing!

And what a blessing it is to see how much love and support you and your family are receiving from each other, not to mention those who follow your blog that has never met you but love and care for Luke, you and your family.

You all are continually in my thoughts and prayers…Hugs to Luke…Bless his heart!

  12. Lindsey, what a beautiful expression of your heart! We are so happy that Luke continues to make progress daily! We will continue to stand with you until we see the complete manifestation of restoration in Luke’s body! Its obvious that God has incredible things for this young man to accomplish for the kingdom-these things don’t always happen without a fight but Greater is He that is in Luke than he that is in the world!! hugs and prayers…Tonya

  15. Hi Lindsey, We love Luke’s progress and we are keeping him and all of you in our prayers moment by moment! Please continue to lift up Andrew and is their Anniversary! I am cooking, and puppy sitting for them as well as trying my best to be encouraging and supportive. Andrew keeps breaking off his teeth due to grinding his teeth in his sleep due to his pain level. It is very difficult to watch his deterioration and we hope he can go to Minneapolis to a Clinic very soon! It is imperative for his health! We do have an amazing heavenly father who comforts us all daily. He gives new strength each day for which we can all be greatful. Love You All, Bev & Ron Schubert

  25. Ben and Lindsey,
You do not know me, my husband Lee works at Yoder’s Building Supply in Fair Play, SC. We have been following Luke’s story from the beginning and you have all touched our hearts tremendously. I can relate in so many ways because we too have a son that has not had an easy road. Some days are so trying and it has helped me so much to read Luke’s blog and find inspiration from all of you to keep pushing forward. Please know that God has his hands on Luke all the time…it is amazing what he has gone through and overcome in such a short time. I am a critical care nurse, so I know he is making great strides. Your faith and strength is awesome. The family support is amazing and you all have such a wonderful spirit. Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

PS Have you asked Luke if he saw Jesus or any parts of heaven when he was “sleeping?”
