Specific Prayer Requests

After spending the weekend there again, I thought it may be helpful to again list some specific prayer requests. Sometimes it’s a little hard to accurately articulate specific prayer concerns and requests. So here is somewhat the “nuts and bolts” version:

– Luke’s physical stamina – everything he does right now takes a lot of energy and he can be absolutely exhausted in a relatively short amount of time. He spends a lot of his time in intense therapy and then getting lots of rest.

– His eyesight – he definitely has vision and it is improving but sometimes his eyes aren’t quite working together. He has some double vision, blurriness and depth perception issues at times. Ben said that in a meeting today with the entire medical team, they mentioned this is something they are concerned about as well.

– Luke’s speech. Right now he is only able to whisper. Preliminary tests show that there isn’t anything physically that should be keeping him from using his vocal cords. They think it may be something that will just all of a sudden “click” with him remembering how to use them. If he isn’t able to begin to make some progress in speaking this week, the ENT specialist will do more in depth test which can be a somewhat unpleasant experience to endure.

– Luke is very aware of what is happening, and some of what his current limitations are. Pray that he does not let this discourage him. We noticed that when he is tired, some of the people around him think that he may not hear what they are saying. On the contrary, Luke is very perceptive and is listening very closely to all that is being said and definitely watching people’s reactions to his situation.

– That his neck injury is healing quickly. The sooner it is healed, the sooner the halo can come off. Obviously the halo is awkward to sleep, sit and walk with. It weighs approximately 6 – 8lbs.

– That all of his “motor skills” can either be improved or relearned.

– For stamina for Ben, Lindsey and the immediate family helping them daily. Faith and I were amazed at how physically draining it can be just to watch all of what needs to happen for Luke’s therapy. Ben and Lindsey spend most of all their time working directly with Luke, while the rest of the family works to help support Ben, Lindsey, Andrew, Maleah along with encouraging Luke.

– Thanking God for all of the miracles that have happened to be able to get to this point! It truly is amazing!

It is for all of the above, that we would still like to give him another week or two before he starts to receive visitors. Ben and Lindsey are 100% committed to doing everything from the perspective of what is best for Luke. And knowing that he has come so far with all of the support and prayers of all of you has been absolutely overwhelming!!!!!!! Thank you so much for you continued concern and prayers. You are making a difference on behalf of Luke!!!

  6. LORD God Jehovah our Faithful Savior, hear the heart cries of your servants, your children in whom You delight. LORD, they are tired and wearied from the burden and yet trusting in You, they are overwhelmed by the nature of Luke’s injuries and yet believe that You will and are healing. LORD, will you give the healing they/we are requesting that Luke would regain the use of his vocal cords, that his eyes would begin to work together, that his neck would heal quickly, that Ben and Lindsey and Luke would have the physical strength and also the strength of hope in You. LORD we praise and thank You for what You have done and are doing in their lives and also in our lives through them. All praises to JESUS!!

  13. Hey Ben & Lindsey, (and the rest of the fam)
We are overwhelmed with joy at the sound of Luke’s voice! We are just beaming with happiness for the progress that Luke makes daily – GOD IS SO AMAZING! It just makes us want to be there even more! We will continue to pray for Luke’s specific needs.

I wanted to share a scripture with you that was passed on to me by Brent’s roommate’s mom (a total stranger to me – and Luke)
    Romans 15:13:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It still amazes me that yet another stranger is praying for Luke – the body of Christ is awe-inspiring! I believe it is through these widespread and steadfast prayers that Luke is healing more and more each day!

Be sure to tell Luke that Ella has lots of new tricks to show him!

    Tons of love,
    Jill

  16. Is there an address that we can send something to Luke’s room? And is there room for things? Also, any suggestions on anything he could receive in the mail from his school buddies that would brighten his day? If someone could put up a small post on this it would be great, or email me. If you don’t get a chance to do that, I totally understand. May the Lord continue to bless Luke with recovery. I know there is still much recovery and strength Luke needs to make, but going on how quickly he has made so much progress, from living through this terrible accident, to regaining so many abilities, and to see that he is sharp, and still has the same personality, humor and whit, I feel so certain that he has the will to push through physical therapy to regain the strength he once had. I will be praying for his eyes and his neck, and for all of you. Love, Carol Crabtree, (Greg,Nick and Ali)

  17. The best news ever–that Luke found his voice! This has been such a big request on my heart for him! Praise God for His mercy. My red bracelet, given to me by Fern Mullet in Sarasota, reminds me constantly to pray. I too was glad for the list of specifics yesterday. What a thrill to see a big specific request answered so promptly. Yippee!!
