The Broad Perspective

I am writing tonight after spending a short amount of time with Luke and his family. Luke looks great and was in good spirits as he dribbled a basketball (between his legs), played tennis and baseball on his Wii. I am amazed at the progress that he has made in such a short amount of time, thank God for miracles. Rumor has it that he will be going home tomorrow (Friday) I’m not sure who is more excited Luke or his parents. I could hear the excitement in their voices as they talked of getting back to a “normal” routine.
I had a good talk with Ben afterwards and we discussed the ups and downs of the last 5 weeks. The question of “why” came up as it has so many times before, instead of asking why, we should be asking what. What can we learn about ourselves, what can we learn about prayer, what can we learn about God. This is where the broad perspective comes in to play. I am sure you have heard the saying you can’t see the forest because of the trees. We don’t know what God has in store for Luke and his family but we know for certain that he has a plan and this was part of it.
The family asks for your continued prayers as they start the next chapter of Luke’s recovery at home. Pray for safe travels as they will be going back and forth three or four times a week. Also pray for a good report on the 28th of August, when the results of the MRI determine if the halo can come off or must remain on for two additional weeks. Pray that the family will be able to function as a complete unit where all the parts fit together as they did before the accident.
It was has been interesting to read this blog  and realize how many people have been praying. The full impact may never be known, not only in Luke’s life but in everyone who has heard his story.

  2. What a day that will be, when Luke comes home – a day many have been praying for and a day that beckons the question, what is this time for? I believe it is a time of celebration, just as it will be on that other “what a day that will be” – homegoings are precious and we rejoice that God has intervened and Luke is going home with his parents, instead of his parents crossing Afton mtn. with Luke still at Kluge center – rejoicing with Ben and Lindsey and still praying for continued recovry. Now is the time of God’s favor, and it has been for Luke over the last 4 weeks.
    Blessings.

  6. This red bracelet has become such a part of me I don’t know if or when I should remove it. It’s become a witness and a fashion statement as I find that it goes with any outfit and I can work God’s goodness and Luke’s story into any conversation. I’m in awe at what God has done and how He has chosen to do it. May He continue to work wonders in Luke’s physical body, may He strengthen your marriage as I’m sure there have been some “snippy times” (maybe not! wow!) 🙂 More than anything may HE be glorified. I pray Luke will be given the gift of being able to tell others about Jesus in a bold and mighty way because God has given him an incredibly moving story of the power of the GREAT I AM. WOW! Just WOW. Welcome home Luke. Your God and your family love you beyond what you can imagine. Enjoy your brother and sister, your Legos, that gorgeous view and your room. You are a hero to us.

  10. Ben,Lindsay, Mark and Martha,
We have been checking in numerous times to see Luke’s progress. This is so encouraging! We all know the power that comes from our God. I know how hard it is to watch a young child go through such hard times. God supplies the grace, as we need it!! We will keep praying for Luke’s healing and for extra strength for all of you.
