Lukeyoder's Blog

Just another weblog

Luke is doing great.  He is loving being free from the halo, and is moving around with ease.  He forgets sometimes about his limitations and it is getting harder for him to just watch, he wants to be in the action.  He still gets pretty tired after being active and rests everyday.  We discovered last weekend (with the halo on) that Luke has a hidden talent, hula-hooping.  He can just go and go!  He did more of that this weekend with his cousins-he holds the record at  just over 6 minutes.  He is also learning to golf.  Ben has been playing, thinking it would be something good he and the boys could do together.  Both Andrew and Luke are liking it a lot.  We are getting into a fairly normal routine now.  Andrew started Kindergarten and is doing great.  Luke is keeping up with his class and doing all of his schooling at home with me right now.  He is a wonderful student and works hard to complete all assignments.  His mind is sharp and we are so thankful for that!  We had some issues in the beginning because he could not see the words in his books.  We were enlarging almost everything on the computer or photocopy, but as of Friday he can read from his books.  It isn’t as fast as he normally would read because he is working hard to see the words but we know God is working!   His eyes are  improving almost daily, but please continue to pray for healing.  He still struggles to see details, and is going for an exam in Staunton on Friday.

We had a great Labor Day weekend.  Ben’s brother Chris and his family came for a visit, it was so good to be with them again.  Faith and the kids had not seen Luke since KCRC and he wasn’t talking yet when they left last time.  They were excited and amazed at the difference.  Luke had such a fun time with his cousins, playing and just enjoying their company.  We had a special time Friday evening, when we got to meet the pilot who flew Luke to UVA.  She came to Mark and Martha’s for a bonfire and dessert.  She had been in contact through email, but it was so neat to be able to meet her face to face, and for her and Luke to meet each other.  She has quite a testimony and had such encouraging things to share with all of us, God has used her to minister to our family.  It makes you so thankful for the people who save the lives of those in need everyday.  It’s more than a job to them, they care so much.

Also, I want to say a big THANK YOU to my parents ~Glenn and Betty Hochstetler~they pretty much gave up their lives in Florida and lived here in VA for 2 months.  They stood in for Ben and I and became parents to Andrew and Maleah the entire 6 weeks we were at UVA with Luke.  Even after we came home, they continued to help us in every way possible.  We could not have made it through this summer without them.  They are going back to Florida in the morning and we will miss them so much!  I don’t think it will be too long before they come back, it will be hard to stay away!  We love you!!!  What a blessing our whole family has been to us, so much love and support~we have become a very tight unit.  God is good!

  4. When I pray for your eyes, Luke I keep thinking of this verse, “I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” The rest of that verse is powerful as well, but we are believing that as you lift up your eyes to Him, He will heal you. We still remember to pray for you. AND….I heard that you shopped at Blessings today at met my mom!! That is sooo cool! She has prayed for you too. You are truly a miracle and we are blessed by what God has done in your life!

  8. Thank you Lindsey for your update – it’s so exciting to watch Luke’s healing through your eyes! I have some commitments through this month but hope to be able to visit you guys after I’m finished. Luke’s story has strengthened my faith – and that of many others that I talk to. There are many more people following Luke’s story than those who respond in this forum and all of those who have asked me what the latest events are, are praying for Luke and for your family.

PS–Heritage Oaks offers a First Tee program for kids so they can learn the basics of golf. It is an incredible program and is FREE, they have fall, spring and summer classes. You should check it out. Our boys have been going for the past four years and they LOVE it!

  11. I still love reading about Lukes progress and WE are still believing that his eyes will continue to heal and his little body will one day be completly whole again. It amazes me how with much time and much prayer Luke is being put back together again. All the kings horses and all the kings men couln’t put Humpty together again but Our King can put each and every little broken piece of Lukes body back together again. We are loving the progress.
