Doctor Update…..

Ben and Lindsey just returned to the visitors lounge after meeting with the Neurologist, Dr. Jane.  Their faces were gleaming with optimism at the results of the MRI. Though there are some ligament concerns at the base of his skull  (linked to his eye sockets), the damage appears to be minimal (considering the severity of the accident). A specialist will be taking a second look at the MRI to determine any more specific, bone-related issues. But overall, the doctors feel positive that his injuries can heal over time without surgery and with rehabilition.

Luke is in a “medically induced unconciousness”  and will stay that way until the doctors feel that his vitals are where they need to be. He is breathing on his own about 50% of the time which is HUGE progress since yesterday (PRAISE GOD!) After talking to Dr. Jane, Ben asked, “Is it a possibility that he will recover from this?” The doctor paused and looked both of them in the eyes and said, “Absolutely – we are expecting it.”

Stay tuned for more good news – we know that God is still working…

  20. We are praising God that the report has come back with such positive words. Doctors generally are more pesimistic,(so they don’t say things out of line) and to hear the words from the Dr’s is music to my ears. My heart is broken for you and have found it difficult to think of anything else. Emmalene , Elizabeth, and I have had it on our Facebook and are so blessed to see so many people reaching out and prayng for Luke. God is so powerful and is visibly working on Luke with higher power than we can ever imagine. Keep us posted and we will cotinue praying for Luke and his complete recovery. “Call unto Me, and I will show you great and mighty things whitch you know not” Jer. 33:3 Love you guys very much and talk to you soon.

  27. Praise God! I just prayed for healing for Luke, asking God
to knit his bones and ligaments back together and for Lindsey, that she would have the traumatic images in her mind of Luke would be washed away and replaced with new ones of him frolicking and playing as he did before the accident. May the Lord bless and keep you all, and may you always remember His faithfulness, mercy and grace. Peace be with and upon you.

Carlene was hit by a car while riding her bike in Staunton back in October. She was also airlifted to UVa and put in an induced coma to reduce her brain swelling. God has healed Carlene so miraculously through the wise doctors and nurses at UVa and I feel confident that He will do the same for Luke. Prayers are constantly being raised for your family! -amy-

  56. Amy Shoop passed on the information to me about your boys and i am so sorry that something like this has happend. Nothing i say can make you feel any better about the situation at hand with your son with brain trauma. However August 31, 2008 my 9 year old daughter was hit by a car and air lifted to UVA with sever brain trauma and was in a coma for a total of 9 days. The last 4 days of her coma was medically induced due to her constant thrashing around. Your son’s Doctor is the best Dr he could have. Trust me i did the research when Doctor Jane Sr and Jr was treating my daughter. Average people would look at your sons picture and respond with “OH MY GOODNESS IM SO SORRY” I however will not because he looks just like my baby girl did just months ago and my comment to that picture is The worst is over. It’s all down hill from here, he can only get better. He will recover amazingly well you will see!!! I left you my email address if you would like to talk with someone who knows exactly how you feel. I will pray for your strength and mental stability because i know howi felt helpless. Family support is a must and it seems like you have that. Good luck to you and your entire family.
